Stop Phubbing

Stop Phubbing is the name of a marketing campaign that was created to sell more dictionaries. We identified a modern human behavior that didn’t yet have a word associated with it and came up with a word to describe it.

The word was ‘Phubbing’ which was created by joining the words phone and snubbing together. Phubbing describes the act of using your phone in social situations instead of actually talking to people. We knew some people would have an emotional connection to this so we created a campaign to eradicate the behavior and made it something that could be easily shared and easy for people to tag their friends in.

By highlighting how quickly new words are created we also highlighted how easily an old dictionary can become obsolete. The campaign was shared heavily, and Phubbing continues to attract PR years after the campaign finished.
